NAIROBI – World Hope have advanced to the Kenya Basketball Federation Division 1 Finals sweeping Barclays Bank.
Vincent Majimbo scored 20 points, Patrick Wakasiaka added 12 and the World Hope built a huge early lead on the way to beating Barclays Bank 81-71 on Saturday afternoon at Upperhill High School.
World Hope dominated this game while in cruise control. Nothing was rushed on their part in the first two quarters. They picked their spots and attacked when needed, which resulted in a 46-34 lead at the half time break.
Spurred by a 12-2 run early in the third quarter that trimmed their deficit, Jason Cyril and Mike Lopokoiyit kept Barclays in the game and the bankers came within two points in a comeback bid that fell short.
In the fourth quarter the bankers’ adjustment didn’t work out. World Hope, on the other hand, got what they wanted when they wanted.
Barclays simply didn’t have the firepower and World Hope had another solid quarter from the three-point range to close out the game.
Walkovers marred what was to be a great basketball afternoon when Co-op Bank teams failed to show up for their semi-final games. Equity Bank Hawks strolled to the finals with a 3-0 series win while KPA lead the series 1-0 against Co-op Bank Spartans.
